Rangers Academy director Craig Mulholland believes Ross McCrorie’s “desperation” to be a footballer is something that is “critical” for every player in the club’s youth setup.
McCrorie, 19, has forced his way into being one of the first names in the starting XI for the first-team a little over a year after worrying his Rangers career was over and Mulholland believes his willingness to put the work is should be an example for others.
Since making his debut earlier in the season, McCrorie has been a revelation for the Gers and been one of the few bright spots in an dull season for the Light Blues.
Mulholland insists other Academy prospects should follow McCrorie’s lead and put in the hard work and show how “desperate” they are to play for the club.
“The reason we are here ultimately is to produce players for the first team. That is the be-all and end-all,” Mulholland said, as quoted by the club’s official website.
“I think what Ross brings to it is his growth mindset and his willingness to work every day. I’ll give you an example – since he has gone to the first team, he still comes back every day and does his strength and conditioning sessions with the sports science team.
“He’s never missed one, and that sums up his attitude to how desperate he wants to play for Rangers and how desperate he wants to be a footballer.
“That desperation when they come through the gates of the training ground is critical for every young player.”
Mulholland took the reins of the Gers Academy three years ago and has pushed through huge changes in the way things are done at the Gers’ Auchenhowie base.
The Ibrox giants are starting to see the benefits of Mulholland and his staff’s work with a number of Academy graduates having made their debut or in the first-team squad on a regular basis such as McCrorie, Jamie Barjonas, Ryan Hardie, Aidan Wilson and Myle Beerman.
In other Rangers transfer news, the club are working on beating Celtic to the signing of a 22-year-old goal machine ripping up the league.
