'Criminal' - Boyd blasts Rangers attacker after heavy defeat v Celtic

Former Rangers striker Kris Boyd has blasted Rangers attacker Daniel Candeias for the part he played in Celtic’s opening goal in the Old Firm derby on Sunday, which ended 5-0 to the Hoops.

The Gers winger gave Kieran Tierney too much space and room to get his cross in and Odsonne Edouard found the back of the net, which set the tone for a dreadful Gers performance.

Speaking on Sky Sports 1’s live post-match coverage, Boyd was scathing in his remarks about the 30-year-old.

“That was criminal defending. Imagine you, as a defender playing like that,” he said, turning to fellow pundit Kris Commons, before continuing his onslaught.

“It summed up the Rangers players, they were soft, happy to be running alongside Celtic players.”

The Gers’ emphatic defeat not only saw the Hoops clinch the league title, but also saw the Ibrox side slip three points behind Aberdeen in the battle for second place in the Scottish Premiership table.

Football Insider verdict

Boyd is completely correct with his remarks about the Gers winger. It was extremely poor by Candeias to give Tierney the space to get the cross in, and it set the tone for what was a dreadful performance by the Ibrox side, who just didn’t compete at all. Ironically enough, Candeias has been one of the Gers better players this season, but just like the rest of his team-mates he failed to turn up at Celtic Park. It will be interesting to see how the manner of the defeat affects the Gers players in their battle for second place in the Scottish Premiership, as they look a team that is completely bereft of confidence at the moment.
