‘Cringe’ – Newcastle fans react to Mykhailo Mudryk’s message to Kieran Trippier after League Cup defeat to Chelsea
Newcastle fans have reacted to Mykhailo Mudryk’s “crazy” social media message to Kieran Trippier after Chelsea beat them in the League Cup on Tuesday (19 December).
Mudryk posted an Instagram story directly aimed at the Englishman, urging him to “stay strong” and stating he admires him “no matter what” after his calamitous mistake in the dying embers of the clash.
The Magpies looked like they’d progress to the semi-finals for the second consecutive season when they were 1-0 up in stoppage time, but the Ukrainian had other ideas.
Trippier failed to control Malo Gusto’s fizzing cross into the box when Mudryk pounced on the free ball and slotted it powerfully past Martin Dubravka to equalise in the 92nd minute at Stamford Bridge.
Extra time proved goalless, but the Blues bested Eddie Howe’s side 4-2 in the shootout, with Trippier also missing Newcastle’s second penalty.
Some Magpies, despite having won just one game in their last five, feel they have hit “rock-bottom” and have taken to social media to react to Mudryk’s message.
One fan feels his post is especially “cringe” coming from Mudryk.
This Magpie feels the post is a reflection of just how far Newcastle have fallen in recent weeks.
This fan suspected that Trippier was not a fan of Mudryk’s post despite his good intentions.
One fan slammed the 22-year-old for “running his mouth” after netting a serendipitous strike.
Some fans feel the club could not reach lower depths if the likes of Mudryk are offering support.
This fan felt that Trippier would only feel worse about his blunder after Mudryk’s post.
One supporter was baffled that Mudryk offered advice to the veteran, but remained confident that Newcastle would be back to their best soon.
