Crysencio Summerville: New update on West Ham’s chase – O’Rourke

West Ham are unlikely to meet the asking price set by Leeds United in their pursuit of star winger Crysencio Summerville.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that the Hammers would not go above their initial £20million bid and could now drop out of the race.

There is no shortage of suitors for the winger, with Fulham and Rennes joining the Hammers in their efforts to reach an agreement with Leeds.

However, it remains to be seen whether any interested club will be able to meet the £35million price tag Daniel Farke’s side have placed on his head.

Summerville, 22, won the Championship Player of the Season award last season and has attracted suitors from across Europe, including the likes of Chelsea, Liverpool and PSG.

West Ham unlikely to match Leeds United asking price for Crysenico Summerville

Summerville has already experienced Premier League football during his time at Leeds with 34 top-flight appearances to his name, inspiring further interest from the likes of West Ham and Fulham.

The £35million price tag placed on their star man comes after Archie Gray was sold to Tottenham for £40million while other talents from the second tier have been priced at a similar level.

Last season, he scored 21 goals and provided ten assists as Leeds narrowly missed out on promotion, losing to Southampton in the playoff final at Wembley.

That form has attracted interest from multiple clubs across Europe, while Leeds’ Championship status has made an exit even more likely.

Football Insider revealed on 26 July that the winger is not pushing for a move away from Elland Road and is happy to wait until a deal materialises.

However, sources say Summerville is still expected to leave Elland Road before the transfer window closes given the level of interest, with clubs tipped to eventually meet the asking price.

Interest from both Fulham and Rennes has emerged in recent weeks, with neither side having made a formal bid yet although they are closely monitoring his situation.

Formal offers from the more high-profile clubs tracking his progress never arrived, with the sides pursuing other options this summer.
