Crystal Palace could submit compensation claim as appeal update emerges
Crystal Palace could submit a compensation claim after an update has emerged in their appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
The Premier League side qualified for the Europa League after beating Manchester City in the FA Cup final in May to get their hands on their first-ever major trophy.
Uefa removed Palace from the second-tier European competition after ruling former co-owner John Textor had breached its multi-club ownership rules.
The American billionaire owns a stake in Lyon, who also qualified for the Europa League, with Uefa’s rules prohibiting clubs controlled by the same owners or directors from competing in the same European competition.
However, Textor has now sold his shares to Woody Johnson and no longer has any involvement at Selhurst Park.
Palace have appealed the decision to CAS following their removal from the Europa League.
Oliver Glasner’s side are currently set to play in the Conference League, while Nottingham Forest have been promoted into the Europa League.
Forest were formally named as a respondent in Palace’s appeal to CAS alongside Uefa and Lyon, with the hearing taking place on Friday (8 August) and a decision to be delivered on Monday (11 August).
That is the day after the south London club will go head-to-head against Liverpool in the Community Shield at Wembley.

Crystal Palace confident as appeal arguments revealed
Palace are confident of overturning the verdict after their key arguments have been revealed.
Sky Sports reported on Thursday (7 August) the club will argue Uefa have different rules for different clubs after how it has handled similar situations in the past.
Meanwhile, Palace insist they have never been part of a multi-club organsition due to Textor’s lack of decisive influence at Selhurst Park among other points of contention.
However, their legal battle might not end on Monday if the decision goes against them.
The Times reported on Thursday the Eagles could submit a compensation claim in the European courts if they fail to win their appeal.
It comes after the European Court of Justice ruled last week CAS should provide more avenues of appeal.
Finance expert Stefan Borson told Football Insider Palace or Forest could earn up to £20million more from the Europa League than the Conference League due to the significant difference in prize money on offer between the two competitions.
Palace will also have to play either Norwegian side Fredrikstad or Danish club Midtjylland in a Conference League play-off round later this month if their demotion stands, with the winner progressing through to the league phase of the competition.

Crystal Palace exits could be on the cards after appeal decision
Glasner is continuing to prepare his side for the new season despite the uncertainty surrounding which European competition they will be playing in.
It’s been a quiet transfer window so far at Selhurst Park, with only Borna Sosa and Walter Benitez arriving through the door.
In terms of potential outgoings, Arsenal have been in talks about a deal for Eberechi Eze, but Palace are believed to be standing firm on their £68million valuation.
Elsewhere, recruitment expert Mick Brown told Football Insider Palace would accept a £40million offer for Marc Guehi after he’s been heavily linked with Liverpool and Newcastle United.
Selhurst Park chiefs are likely waiting for clarity on their European place before making big decisions in the current transfer window.
