Crystal Palace fans explode at ‘corrupt’ UEFA after Evangelos Marinakis claim
Crystal Palace fans’ frustrations towards UEFA are continuing to build on social media while they remain out of the Europa League as things stand.
The Eagles were demoted from the Europa League to the Conference League after UEFA deemed them in breach of the multi-club ownership rules due to John Textor’s involvement at Lyon.
They have now have lodged an official appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in an attempt to get their position reinstated and both Nottingham Forest and Lyon removed.
However, as the main beneficiaries of the decision, Forest have also been the focus of supporters’ frustrations at Selhurst Park.
Connections have been drawn between Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis and UEFA General Secretary Theodore Theodoridis as the two are known to be good friends.
Allegations of “corruption” have once again been aimed at UEFA, with Palace supporters continuing their protests with demonstrations in both South London and Nyon.
Prominent Crystal Palace supporter group Holmesdale Fanatics shared a new post on X directing attention towards the relationships at the top of the governing body.
Stefan Borson shares update on Europa League appeal at CAS
Former Man City financial adviser Stefan Borson told Football Insider on 22 July that UEFA have strong evidence against Crystal Palace in their multi-club ownership case.
Borson explained that Palace are going to try and unwind UEFA’s decision in respect of decisive influence, but may find it tricky to disprove the current ruling.
Meanwhile, Borson told Football Insider that Palace’s argument surrounding a rule change is “hopeless” despite frustrations about the 1 March deadline imposed.
Two clubs have already seen similar arguments thrown out of CAS, and the Eagles will need better points should they wish to see their position reinstated.
Crystal Palace fans rage at UEFA and Evangelos Marinakis
Crystal Palace supporters have been left frustrated by the decision, and have made their grievences known with posts directed both at UEFA and the Forest owner.
An historic FA Cup victory thanks to an Eberechi Eze goal to beat Man City 1-0, should have earned them a rightful place in the Europa League before UEFA’s decision ripped it away.
Since the decision was made, protests have been made both on the streets and on social media, with supporters now raising new concerns about “corruption”.
