Crystal Palace plot crunch Jean-Philippe Mateta talks – sources

Crystal Palace will hold crunch talks over a long-term deal for star striker Jean-Philippe Mateta this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

The 27-year-old is currently contracted at Selhurst Park until June 2027 but is attracting interest from the likes of Barcelona, Atletico Madrid and former club Lyon.

Palace activated an option to extend his deal a further 12 months in December but are keen to go even further to fend off interest in his services.

Mateta is a key man for Oliver Glasner and the Eagles boss is desperate to keep him at Selhurst Park past this summer.

However, the interest from some of Europe’s top clubs will be flattering for the France international – who won silver with his country at last year’s Olympic Games.

Mateta has hit 13 goals in 28 games across all competitions this season – including six strikes in his last five Premier League games.

He has started in 26 of those outings and remains Palace’s talisman despite the signing of Eddie Nketiah last summer (2024).

The Frenchman has gone from strength to strength under Glasner’s management, scoring 26 goals in 41 games for the Austrian.

Football Insider has been told by recruitment expert Mick Brown (9 February) that Crystal Palace are prepared to do all they can to keep Mateta at the club.

Crystal Palace also battling to keep Guehi this summer

Meanwhile, Football Insider revealed on 4 February that Liverpool and Arsenal will likely join the race for Marc Guehi this summer.

Guehi will have just 12 months left on his Palace deal in June and the Eagles now face an uphill battle to keep him at the club.

Tottenham launched a late-window, £70million bid for the Palace skipper but saw that approach rejected.
