Crystal Palace tipped to appoint Sean Dyche as manager after latest twist

Sean Dyche’s odds of being named the next Crystal Palace manager have been slashed in recent days.

The former Burnley boss was sacked by Nottingham Forest earlier this month, and has been linked with several clubs.

The latest, Palace, are set to be without a manager at the end of the season, with Oliver Glasner set to leave at the end of his contract.

The Austrian could still depart before the season is over, however, given the massive pressure that currently hangs over his position.

The Eagles beat Wolves 1-0 on Sunday to earn just their second win in 16 games across all competitions, but there remained an air of anger at Selhurst Park.

Palace fans made their thoughts clear with the banners they held up during Sunday’s win over Wolves.

They read: “Opportunities missed – board inept – fans disrespected – Glasner finished”.

The Austrian had targeted fans on Friday in an extraordinary press conference that followed Thursday’s draw away at Bosnian side Zrinjski Mostar.

“Stay humble”, he told them, after they had called for his sacking during the dismal Conference League draw.

Unsurprisingly, the Palace faithful did not take that comment well, with the Austrian’s relationship with the fans who sang his name just months ago now completely destroyed.

Decision-makers at Selhurst Park insist that Glasner will see out the season, and victory on Sunday will have lifted a weight off their backs.

But should it not last, then a difficult choice may have to be made before the season is out.

One major bookmaker has slashed Dyche’s odds of taking over at Palace to 7/4 in recent days, while Robbie Keane (6/4) continues to lead the way.

Dyche previously commented on Palace links

When Roy Hodgson left Palace at the end of the 2020-21 season, Dyche was linked with the job of replacing him.

The 54-year-old was at Burnley at the time, and was asked about the rumours.

“I have always maintained the same thought, eventually things in football change,” he said. “But I have been saying that since our first promotion.

“Links come up and I am always flattered by any links at any level of football because I respect the whole of football.”

“If things change in the future? Who knows, you can’t guarantee what is going to be in football, that is one thing I know,” he added.

Dyche would go on to manage Everton, but could now be set to finally make the switch to Selhurst Park.
