Cyriel Dessers incident shocks in Rangers vs Fenerbahce drama: ‘Wow, wow’
Cyriel Dessers was involved in an incident during Rangers’ Europa League stunning clash against Fenerbahce that left Kris Boyd in disbelief.
The Nigerian forward had already put Barry Ferguson’s side ahead in Turkey, latching onto Mohammed Diomande’s pass following a mix-up in the Fenerbahce defence on 6 March.
Despite the Gers having several chances to extend their lead, Jose Mourinho‘s side were able to get back into the game as Alexander Djiku fired an acrobatic effort past Jack Butland, who is under pressure at Rangers.
Vaclav Cerny did eventually hand the Light Blues a much-needed one-goal lead just before the half-time break and then another, and with the Gers counter-attacking in the second half, Dessers could have had a hat-trick.
He saw two separate goals cruelly cancelled out by VAR, having been centimetres offside when receiving the ball for the first that was ruled out, and Boyd could not quite believe what he was seeing as Rangers won 3-1 away from home.
Cyriel Dessers denied twice by VAR in Rangers win
Speaking via Sky Sports News [6 March, 7:02], Boyd said: “I thought Cyriel Dessers had put Rangers two goals up, but it’s just been ruled out. It’s very tight but I’ve not seen a replay.
“I’m just seeing it here… Wow, wow. I cannot… It’s right on the line. So, so tight. Absolutely gutted.”
That was just the first offside goal, with the former Gers player then speaking about the second: “The last one was chalked off and it took absolutely ages to rule it out. It looks like we’re heading for the same.”
“I’m trying to call it but I have no clue.”

Barry Ferguson happy with positive result in Turkey
Football Insider verdict
Boyd aimed a cheeky dig at Jamie O’Hara after Rangers’ opening goal, and with his team leaving Turkey with a hard-fought lead and returning to Ibrox, he will be just as happy.
Fenerbahce still offered plenty of danger in the final third, Ferguson’s players were just too much for Mourinho’s side to handle on the counter-attack.

While it has been an incredibly difficult season domestically for Rangers, with Philippe Clement eventually being sacked, the Light Blues have continued to perform in Europe without a hitch.
The Europa League is really all the Gers have left to fight for, with the team 16 points behind Celtic in the Scottish Premiership table, and Ferguson’s side will back themselves for a spot in the next round now.
Cerny’s second goal nine minutes from time was an incredible moment to help wrap up the victory, and Ferguson will want to see more of this football in all competitions, not just in Europe.
