Dan Burn stuns Kris Boyd with incredible Newcastle heroics vs Crystal Palace
Dan Burn left Kris Boyd in awe with his superb goal-saving block in the 1-1 Newcastle United draw with Crystal Palace.
The 32-year-old made a stunning goal-line block to deny Daniel Munoz’s rebound shot after Nick Pope saved to deny Eagles midfielder Ismaila Sarr on 30 November, capping a dramatic sequence where the Senegalese international’s clever run and shot almost broke through Newcastle’s defence.
Boyd started exclaiming on Sky Sports Soccer Saturday saying (4.23pm): “Wow. Wow. It’s a ball over the top, Sarr gets through, Pope gets out and blocks it again. It breaks to the far post and Munoz is coming in, I think he’s got to score.
“He’s onside. It’s a great ball over the top, Sarr does really well, it’s a great first touch out of his feet. He just tries to lift it over Nick Pope with his left foot. He saves it, it goes to the back post.
“I must say, I must say, woah. What a block this is from Dan Burn. Munoz gets this one on target, Dan Burn comes across and stops what would have been a goal. I bet he’d wish he done that with the first one Munoz.“
Newcastle struggle in attack to disappoint under Eddie Howe
Football Insider opinion
The Magpies offered next to nothing as an attacking force but took the lead eight minutes into the second half, when Marc Guehi turned Anthony Gordon’s low cross into his own net following a well-worked free-kick. Munoz, who missed a glorious chance earlier to give the hosts a first-half lead, beat Pope with a towering far-post header with just over 90 seconds of injury time left to play.
The Toon Army sit 10th in the Premier League after the draw, just three points off the top four. Whilst the Eagles are just above the relegation zone in 17th on goal difference.
Eddie Howe’s side’s attacking threat has faltered this season, with only 15 goals scored in 12 Premier League matches, making them the fifth-lowest scorers in the division. Saturday’s opponents Crystal Palace (10), Everton, and Southampton are among the few teams with worse records.
This marks a sharp decline from last season, where the Geordies had netted 27 goals by the same stage, despite competing in the Champions League.

Injury setbacks have compounded their struggles, with Alexander Isak managing just four league goals before being subbed off hurt in the first half against Palace.
Howe faces challenges integrating big-money signing Sandro Tonali alongside playmaker Bruno Guimarães, while Gordon has struggled when shifted to the right wing—a position where Newcastle need January reinforcement.
Callum Wilson, whose contract expires this summer, is also playing for his future. Howe must reignite Newcastle’s attacking spark to stay competitive.
