Graeme Murty: This is what Rangers U20s opponents told us after win
By James Black
Rangers Under-20’s manager Graeme Murty has revealed his side were called the “most dangerous team” Brentford have come up against after a 5-2 win on Sunday.
The Gers development team was withdrawn from the SPFL Development League in favour of a year-long programme of friendly fixtures against some of the leading clubs for youth development across Europe.
Games against clubs like Manchester City, Benfica, PSV Eindhoven and Tottenham will see Murty’s squad come up against a higher quality of player than they would have domestically.
Brentford operate a similar system, using a B side over the last two years instead to improve the quality of their home-grown players.
A hat-trick from Ryan Hardie and goals from Jamie Barjonas and Aaron Nemane sealed the win for the Gers and Murty was pleased with his side’s performance.

“We were very good in patches and we were a massive threat in the final third,” he told Rangers’ official website.
“Brentford paid us the compliment of saying we were the most dangerous team they’ve played against, and they were really impressed with what we were doing.
“We take that complement as it is meant as it can’t have been easy for them. We had it last week where we had a big reverse score against us.
“I thought they dealt with the result fantastically well as a staff, and we were very open and honest about our feedback with one another in trying to get both of our squads into a better place than they are at the moment, and they are really looking forward to coming back up here to play us again.
“Every team we have played against has said that so far, and it is a good compliment to the standard we are playing at right at the moment.
Out-of-favour striker Kenny Miller also featured for the Under-20’s in Sunday’s game after his reported exclusion from Caixinha’s first team for leaking information about a team-meeting to a journalist.
Several players from the Academy set-up have featured for Caixinha’s senior side since the Portuguese took over in March with Ross McCrorie, Aidan Wilson, Jamie Barjonas, Kyle Bradley and Myles Beerman all earning first-team debuts.
In latest Rangers news, fans reacted to Kenny Miller playing for the Under-20’s against Brentford B.
