'He always flatters to deceive' - Darren Bent rips into new Villa signing he's played against

Darren Bent has ripped into recent Aston Villa arrival Kortney Hause and claimed he “flatters to deceive”.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Villa striker insisted the defender can be “brilliant for 70 minutes” but is prone to making mistakes and lapses in concentration.

Bent is speaking from a position of first-hand knowledge after going toe to toe with the 23-year-old towards the end of his own glittering playing career.

Hause became the fourth of Villa’s seven summer signings last month when his January loan from Wolves was converted into a permanent transfer.

“To be fair, I played against him a couple of times of Wolves and he’s got the big physical presence but he always flatters to deceive, for me.

“When I watched him for Wolves he’s got all the physical attributes, is good on the ball but sometimes he’d always make a mistake, a lapse in concentration.

“You think he’s brilliant for 70 minutes and he’s gone and done this. He’s got a point to prove and maybe again the Premier League with Aston Villa might suit him.

“Maybe now this is his opportunity. There’s a big difference between the Championship and the Premier League and I’ve seen guys have the most spectacular seasons in the Championship and you go, ‘wow they can do in the Premier League’.

“They come in and six months later they’re on the bench because they can’t sustain it and they can’t play in the Premier League.”

Hause is one of three defenders signed by Villa boss Dean Smith this summer along with Tyrone Mings and Ezri Konsa, who signed from Brentford for £12million earlier this week.

The versatile Hause, who can play at centre-back or left-back, made 12 appearances for Villa in the Championship before they were promoted via the play-offs.

In other Aston Villa news, it can be REVEALED that the club have agreed the terms of another summer signing as he undergoes a medical after eight-figure fee is settled.
