Darwin Nunez reacts to Cristiano Ronaldo as Liverpool exit beckons

Darwin Nunez remains consistently linked with a Liverpool exit this summer, having endured a lack of game time for the Anfield giants last term.

While the Reds won the Premier League title last term, the Uruguay international contributed little to those efforts, making just eight top-flight starts.

Consequently, Nunez is expected to leave Liverpool this summer, while Bayern Munich remain interested in fellow Anfield star Luis Diaz.

Meanwhile, Liverpool are closing in on Hugo Ekitike, whose presence up front would further reduce the need for Nunez in Arne Slot’s squad.

Nunez reacts to Ronaldo’s message as Liverpool exit nears

The 26-year-old scored 34 goals in 41 appearances during his final season for Benfica, but has been unable to display that kind of prolific form in three seasons at Anfield.

Meanwhile, Portugal legend Cristiano Ronaldo took to Instagram on Wednesday, 23 July, to share a series of holiday photos captioned with a sun emoji and a red heart emoji.

Ronaldo’s message attracted a like from Nunez, who is yet to finalise a transfer amid the news he is set to leave Liverpool.

Napoli open door for Atletico Madrid to sign Nunez

While Nunez has fallen out of favour at Liverpool, particularly after Slot inherited the managerial reins from legendary predecessor Jurgen Klopp, the striker can still be an asset elsewhere.

Nunez struggled last term

The Uruguay star notched just seven goals in 47 appearances last season, proving that he does not boast the quality the Reds need to help them win more silverware.

However, in the 2023/24 campaign, Nunez managed a significantly better return by scoring 18 goals and producing 13 assists in 54 outings across all competitions.

Meanwhile, Napoli previously wanted to sign Nunez but subsequently acquired Lorenzo Lucca from Udinese instead.

The 24-year-old notched 12 goals and one assist in 33 Serie A appearances for a Udinese outfit that finished 12th in the Italian top flight last term.

But while Napoli no longer intend to sign the Liverpool man, Atletico Madrid have set their sights on Nunez, and can now seal their move.

Elsewhere, Crystal Palace have been tipped to sell Marc Guehi amid interest from the Reds in a Liverpool News 247 exclusive.
