Data reveals why Eddie Howe wants to bring Jacob Ramsey to Newcastle

Aston Villa midfielder Jacob Ramsey could be the perfect signing for Newcastle as Eddie Howe prepares to bring the 24-year-old to St James’ Park.

Ramsey is said to be “unhappy” at Aston Villa and he wants to kickstart his career with a move away from the Midlands club this summer.

Spurs were backed to complete the signing of Ramsey, but he remains at Aston Villa having appeared for the club in pre-season.

Ramsey now wants to join Newcastle, and the data backs up why the Howe wants to the add the player to his midfield.

Howe would like to add another midfielder to his squad after letting Sean Longstaff join Leeds United earlier in the window.

Ramsey started 19 matches at Villa in the Premier League last season and when given the opportunity to play under Unai Emery, the midfielder performed.

The Villa star also created 21 chances for his team mates, as he cemented himself as a creative midfielder capable of making things happen in the final third whilst being tidy in possession.

Signing Ramsey would be a rare positive in a disastrous summer for Newcastle.

Adding a fresh body into the squad could lift spirits in the Newcastle camp with all the talk about the expected departure of striker Alexander Isak.

Ramsey would be able to add a different dimension to a tenacious midfield, who battle hard to set the tempo in games for the Toon, especially at St James’ Park.

A creative midfielder who can all play on the wing would add versatility to Howe’s options which are currently limited due to Isak’s absence and the possibility of Anthony Gordon having to give up his position on the left flank to play up top.

Howe still needs to add more attacking reinforcements to his squad, with Brentford’s Yoane Wissa looking likely to join the club.

Wissa would be able to play anywhere across the front three, again giving Howe much needed versatility.

The transfer window shuts in a few weeks so Howe does not have long to get signings through the door and their league campaign gets underway in a matter of days at Aston Villa.
