Rangers defender David Bates has admitted manager Graeme Murty has “put a real stamp on things” as he continues to revamp his side after being handed the reins until the end of the season.
Murty replaced Pedro Caixinha in October and Bates has revealed Murty has worked hard on trying to get the Gers playing how he wants them to.
The Ibrox giants returned to the UK on Sunday after their trip to the United States for warm weather training before facing Brazilian sides Corinthians and Atletico Mineiro in the Florida Cup.
Bates believes the Gers trip to the US should put them in a good position going into the second-half of the season.
“It should set us up for a big second half of the season ahead,” Bates said, as quoted by the Daily Record.
“When the manager came in, he gave us an idea of how he wants us to play and set up. You can already see it in the games we’ve played. It’s about keeping the ball and playing out from the back.
“He’s already put a real stamp on things and off the pitch, the team bonding has been important. We got involved in a few activities in America.
“We went to the ice hockey for example. At the time, you might not think it – but that type of thing definitely bonds you and brings the boys closer together.
“So when you go out on the pitch you’re a bit more resilient. We’ve shown that already.”
The former Raith Rovers defender is out of contract at the end of the season and has impressed in his limited first-team appearances so far this season.
Bates was named man of the match in the recent Old Firm clash after replacing Bruno Alves after only 16 minutes then putting in an imperious performance at the heart of the Gers defence.
Bates joined the Gers last summer – initially on a development loan – and signed an 18 month contract last January.
The 21-year-old has made 14 appearances for the Ibrox giants and is yet to score his first goal for his boyhood heroes.
In other Rangers news, the Gers are expected to announce this done deal within hours after a medical is scheduled.
