David Gold makes Twitter revelation: I am a massive fan of this West Ham 24-year-old

By Will Butcher

David Gold has revealed his admiration for West Ham midfielder Pedro Obiang after he starred in Sunday’s 2-2 draw against Liverpool.

The 24-year-old was in good form alongside captain Mark Noble, as he looked to break up Liverpool’s attacking play.

Replying to a fan on his personal Twitter account, co-owner Gold claimed that he has been “a great fan” of the Spanish midfielder since his move to East London from Serie A side Sampdoria in the summer of 2015.

Wearing the number 14 shirt, Obiang has become one of the first names on the Hammers team sheet this season as his combative displays have caught the attention of Slaven Bilic.

The Madrid-born midfielder also possesses a superb array of passing, as well as the ability to glide past opponents with his long strides.

It has seen him break into the side this season, displacing the likes of Cheikhou Kouyate and Havard Nordtveit to fill the void next to Noble.

Obiang has now made 17 league and cup appearances this season, but is just one yellow card away from picking up a one-match suspension.

The Spain Under-21’s international is expected to feature in Bilic’s side that welcome Premier League new boys Burnley to the London Stadium on Wednesday evening.

Obiang will be hoping to play a crucial part in his side’s performance, as three points could take the Hammers from a worrying 17th place to a healthier 15th.

In other West Ham news, Bilic is eyeing a move for this Premier League defender who has an £18million get-out clause.
