Davies & Kabak both tipped to start for Liverpool v Leicester tomorrow

Gabby Agbonlahor has insisted Liverpool start their new centre-backs against Leicester City on Saturday.

The former Aston Villa striker claims that the deadline day signings of Ben Davies and Ozan Kabak could both start so Jordan Henderson can return to the midfield.

Klopp’s hand may have been forced as he explained in Friday’s press conference that Fabinho will miss the clash at the King Power Stadium with a ‘muscle issue’.

This leaves the Reds with none of their senior centre backs fit to face Leicester with Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip also ruled out.

Klopp may have no choice but to throw his new signings in at the deep end against a talented Leicester side with a returning Jamie Vardy.

When asked if Liverpool should start one of their new centre backs against Leicester, Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs: “They have to.

“Vardy’s back and Leicester will be confident heading into this game.

“They’ll be thinking that this is not the same Liverpool as last season in the league and if I was putting a bet on I’d put it on Leicester to win this game.

“They’re at home and they can go back to the Leicester of old and play on the counter-attack.

“I’m sure Klopp will be thinking he’d rather have a proper centre back there who can follow Vardy’s runs rather than a midfielder who isn’t used to playing there.

“The new centre half could come in with the midfielders returning to midfield.”

Davies and Kabak are both available and under consideration, although manager Jurgen Klopp was non-committal at his media conference on whether either would start.

Liverpool have lost five of their nine competitive matches in 2021, including successive league fixtures for the first time under Klopp.
