According to The Sun, Rangers are also keen on offering the player a deal with the club and could guarantee the tough-tackling midfielder a chance to develop north of the border.
The report claims that Mark Allen was “desperate” for a deal after talks took place.
However, it has emerged that it is Barcelona who are winning the race for the player’s signature and the Catalan club are the player’s preferred destination.
The talented youngster has made two outings for the Gunners senior side, both in the Europa League, against Bate Borisov and Red Star Belgrade and is out of contract this summer.
Football Insider verdict:
This would be a major loss for the Gunners who are usually on the receiving end of Barcelona’s up and coming talents. Although McGuane’s appearances have been limited to just two, the fact that Wenger has chosen to select such an inexperienced player for the club’s European matches shows just how highly Arsene Wenger rates the 18-year-old. A loan move to Rangers would suit the Gunners as it would allow them to keep hold of their midfielder but the player clearly has big ambitions and may be persuaded into a move to Spain after the Gunners have been unable to tie the player into a new deal.
