Rangers are close to securing a loan deal for Roma centre-forward Umar Sadiq, according to a report.
STV claims that the Gers are in “advanced discussions” about taking the 21-year-old on a season-long loan move in the next campaign.
It is understood that the Light Blues hope the 6ft 3in (source: Transfermarkt) colossus joins the squad while they are still at a training camp in Spain and that manager Steven Gerrard still wants one more deal after him ahead of the Europa League first round qualifying tie against Shkupi.
Gerrard has already overseen seven new arrivals at Ibrox so far under his tenure and is hoping to get two more deals over the line.
Football Insider verdict:
Gerrard’s work so far has to be commended and it looks like he is ready to give it a right good go next season during his first taste of management. It remains to be seen whether his new group of players can get anywhere near dominant Scottish champions Celtic, but there is certainly a lot of optimism at Ibrox ahead of the new season. They look like welcoming Sadiq as the latest Gerrard recruit and he is set to stiffen up competition for places in attack. Sadiq is a speed machine that plays as a central striker and a year out on loan in Scotland could be the making of him. The Nigerian is currently on the books at Roma, but showed out on loan in the second half of last season that he has bundles of potential. He spent time with Dutch club NAC Breda, where he managed to score five goals and supply three assists in just 12 appearances.
