Dean Saunders has torn into Alberto Moreno for his defensive display for Liverpool in recent weeks and thinks that his influence could lead to Dejan Lovren being worried about playing in the Championship in the future.
Moreno, 25, is known for being a good attacking but his weaknesses show when he is called into action when the opposition has the ball.
Liverpool have conceded seven goals in their last two matches with Moreno playing at left-back and now, former Reds forward Saunders believes that it could lead to his team-mates turning on him including defender Lovren, who is facing a lot of scrutiny for his displays.
“The left-back is going to cost Liverpool,” said Saunders on radio station TalkSport on Thursday morning, as shown on their official Twitter account.
He added: “They’re going to lose goals, so he’s going to cost him [Jurgen Klopp].
“Then you look at Lovren, and if I was Lovren, I’d be shouting to him ‘you are going to get me in the Championship, I’m going to be playing in the Championship if I keep playing alongside you’.”
Moreno has started all but one of Liverpool’s fixtures this season but Klopp may be forced to reconsider his place in the side after the club’s dour defensive record was highlighted once again in the last few days.
The Spanish full-back supplied an assist in the 2-2 draw with his former club Sevilla on Wednesday night but ultimately the side still seem to be able to get the goals without his influence due to their strong attack force.
Andrew Robertson and James Milner are other options to play at left-back with the former being signed up by the Reds in the summer transfer window to arrest the problem area.
