Rangers star Josh Windass’ dad, former Hull City star Dean, has launched a foul-mouthed Twitter rant at Gers fans after Josh scored in the final day 5-5 draw with Hibernian.
The 24-year-old has come in for criticism from Rangers fans for his performances for the Light Blues – with his dad often getting embroiled in arguments with fans on social media who aim stick at the 18-goal attacker.
Windass scored the Gers’ fifth goal of the afternoon when Jason Holt’s long-range shot cannoned off his hip and wrong-footed Hibs keeper Ofir Marciano – with Windass not knowing much about it.
The result meant that the Ibrox giants finished the campaign in third, but that didn’t stop Windass senior from taking a dig at Rangers fans.
“Oh Josh, not another goal. Bet you’re still **** though,” Windass said on his personal Twitter account.
Football Insider verdict
That’s one way to endear yourself to Rangers fans. Windass has rightly come in for criticism for his performances this season from his manager, ex-players and fans alike and his goal against Hibs hit off him and was in the net before he knew what was happening. If he had gone on some mazy run, beating several defenders in the process, before dinking the ball beyond a helpless keeper then Dean might have had something almost coming close to a point. He didn’t. It was a deflection. It’s hardly the sort of moment that will make managers sit up and take notice of the Gers attacker. Other than an, admittedly fantastic, run of form earlier in the season, Windass has been a massive disappointment during his two seasons at Ibrox – even if his dad wants to get into arguments about it on Twitter with fans. If Windass stays at Rangers beyond the summer, he will need to be much more consistent over the course of the season.
