West Ham defender Declan Rice has delivered a heartfelt Twitter response after the Hammers 1-1 draw with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League on Sunday.
The 19-year-old centre-back, who is reportedly set to extend his contract at the London Stadium despite his current deal already running until 2020, referred to the fact that the Blues let him go at the age of 14 – a fact that clearly sticks in his mind.
Rice Tweeted on his official social media account and wrote, “Released by Chelsea a 14.. 5 years later start against them & put in a fantastic team performance. Fans were a different class too. Joe Hart! We keep pushing until the end #COYI.”

It was a valuable point gained against Antonio Conte’s men and one which pushed the Hammers onto 34 points, six points clear of the relegation zone.
Football Insider verdict:
Rice is right, this was a great performance and one that pre-match many would have felt they stood little chance of attaining. The 19-year-old has been at the East Londoners since 2015, after he left the champions, and that’s evidently a time in his life that irks him. Having said that, he has shown that he has the character and temperament to make it at the top level. Sometimes, it’s moments like these in a players career that are the making of them – to suffer that pain of rejection is what is needed to spur them on and in Rice’s case, that seems to have been what’s happened.
