Declan Rice is blown away in ‘top’ message to Arsenal fans
Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice took to social media to celebrate their 2-1 Champions League win over Spanish side Girona on Wednesday (January 29).
The 26-year-old came on as a late substitute for goalscorer Jorginho as Arsenal secured a spot in the Champions League round of 16 with a fourth-placed finish in the new-look league phase.
Former Tottenham loanee Arnaut Danjuma gave the home side the lead after backup ‘keeper Neto was caught out in no man’s land, leading fans to request he be sent back to Bournemouth.
Jorginho restored parity from the penalty stop after Thomas Partey was upended in the Girona box before wonderkid Ethan Nwaneri bagged the winner with a lovely curling effort two minutes later.
Struggling winger Raheem Sterling had the opportunity to make it 3-1 after Alejandro Frances clear handball but was unable to convert from the spot, leaving Sky Sports pundit Tim Sherwood incensed.

Rice took to Instagram after the win over Girona to thank the fans who made the trip to Spain, saying: “Travelling fans top. See you Sunday Gunners.”

Arsenal will face Eddie Howe’s in-form Newcastle for their League Cup semi-final second leg, in which they are currently 2-0 down on aggregate.
