Declan Rice sends message to Ivan Toney after source’s transfer reveal

Declan Rice has shared a new message with Ivan Toney on social media amid rumours that the England striker could be on his way back to the Premier League very soon.

Ivan Toney has has scored regularly for Saudi Pro League side Al-Ahli since he made the move from Brentford in 2024, though, with 30 goals in 44 appearances last season.

He has notched 12 in 18 games for his club so far in 2025-26, leading to widespread rumours that he could return to England to stake a claim for Thomas Tuchel’s World Cup squad next year.

The 29-year-old has only played once for his country since Tuchel took over, with Toney being snubbed by the England boss in June as he played just two minutes across the two fixtures he was called up for.

Football Insider recently revealed that Toney is wanted by West Ham and Everton in January, with Tottenham also linked with a move, and he has now been sent a new message by Three Lions teammate Declan Rice as the winter window looms.

Rice sends heartfelt message to Toney after Arsenal vs Brentford clash

Tottenham are the front-runners to sign Toney, according to Football Insider’s sources, as they are the most likely club able to match his lofty wage demands ahead of Everton and West Ham.

The Saudi Pro League is currently in the midst of a winter break, with Toney not set to play again until 19 December, and he has clearly taken the opportunity to return to England to be with his family.

He scored 72 goals in 141 games across four seasons at Brentford prior to joining Al-Ahli, and watched on as they were beaten 2-0 by Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday (3 December).

Toney’s England teammate Rice took to his Instagram story following the clash to post a picture of the pair in the stands with a message saying: “good to see my brother @ivantoney1” with a red heart emoji.

Matt Le Tissier has backed Toney to challenge Harry Kane on the international stage

While he has been linked with a Premier League return, Toney is known to be happy in Saudi Arabia and is contracted to Al-Ahli until 2028.

England are not blessed with a plethora of top centre-forwards right now, however, and there is a feeling that he could be trusted by Tuchel for the World Cup if he proves himself in the Premier League once more before the tournament next summer.

Former Three Lions striker and Southampton legend Matt Le Tissier has exclusively told Football Insider that he feels Toney can challenge Kane for his place and go to the USA ahead of the likes of Ollie Watkins or Danny Welbeck.

His wages will be tough for an interested club to match though, while it has been claimed that he would face tax penalties if he left Saudi Arabia within two years of arriving too, so it remains to be seen whether a move back to English football materialises anytime soon.
