Declan Rice sends message to Mason Mount ahead of Man United clash

Declan Rice has taken to social media to send a birthday message to Man United star Mason Mount ahead of their FA Cup tie with Arsenal on Sunday (January 12).

Mount, 26, shared an image of himself training on Instagram after picking up a muscle injury in United’s last-gasp 2-1 win over local rivals Man City earlier in the season.

The attacking midfielder has since missed their last five games across all competitions, coinciding with a winless streak that has seen them continue to languish in the bottom half of the Premier League.

Ruben Amorim has failed to turn it around at Old Trafford since taking over from Erik ten Hag, winning four, drawing two, and losing six of his 12 games in charge.

Mount has only managed to make 32 appearances for Man United since joining from boyhood club Chelsea for £55million back in the summer of 2023 due to various injury issues.

Declan Rice puts club rivalry to one side in birthday message to Man United star Mason Mount

Rice, 25, who rose through the Chelsea youth ranks with Mount, has since established himself as a key player for London rivals Arsenal, starting 23 of his 25 games across all competitions, scoring two goals, and providing five assists in his 1944 minutes of action.

Arsenal and Man United may have one of the Premier League’s most heated rivalries, but Rice put that to one side, taking to Instagram to send Mount a birthday message, saying: “26! Happy birthday my brother.”

Mount won’t feature for United in the FA Cup tie with Arsenal due to his current injury, so neither he nor Rice will have to worry about meeting on the pitch.

Amorim’s side are still without a win in their last five games across all competitions, four of which have been defeats, going into the game against Arsenal.
