Defender to be exposed: Three things to expect from Liverpool against Burnley

By Dominic Toner

Liverpool host Burnley in the Premier League on Sunday and will hope to consolidate their place in the top four.

Jurgen Klopp’s side lost 2-0 in the previous meeting with the Clarets this season and have had problems with sides outside the top six.

The Reds will still start as strong favourites to secure the win at Anfield and follow on from their 3-1 victory over Arsenal in their last game.

Football Insider predicts three things that are likely to happen in the clash between Liverpool and Burnley.

Klavan to be exposed

Liverpool defender Ragnar Klavan looks set to continue in the side as Dejan Lovren remains an injury doubt. The 31-year-old is a much safer option than make-shift centre-back Lucas and is dominant in the air. However, he is likely to be in for a real test against Burnley’s striker Andre Gray. The forward is blessed with great pace and could really expose Klavan if they play with a high defensive line. Gray has netted nine goals already this season and will surely look to play on the shoulder of Klavan, who will need to be at his best to contend with the Englishman.

Coutinho to score

Liverpool ace Philippe Coutinho is a player that frustrates supporters as he clearly has the talent to be one of the best in the Premier League. He has been guilty of being inconsistent this season, but looks to be entering a purple patch of form. The attacker looked dangerous in the recent win over Arsenal and scored before that against Leicester. The Brazilian has netted seven goals this season, but will know a player of his ability should have more. He is likely to see much of the ball against a defensively-minded Burnley and would be a good tip to be a goal scorer.

Lallana to be influential

Liverpool midfielder Adam Lallana has stepped up to be a vital component of Klopp’s side and that is likely to be the case against the Clarets. The central midfielder is going to boss possession on Sunday and his attacking flair will be key to breaking down Burnley’s resolute defence. The England international has proved he can make the difference for the Reds and can be expected to have a major role once again.
