Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to urge their club to sign Schalke ace Leon Goretzka.

The Anfield faithful’s messages came after Sportbild reported that the Reds were ready to rival Manchester City and Arsenal in the race for the 22-year-old central midfielder.

It was said that both City and Liverpool had both tabled an interest in Goretzka after being impressed by his recent displays.

The report claimed the German international has not travelled with Schalke’s pre-season touring party, as he recovers from his exertions in his nation’s Confederations Cup campaign.

Sportbild also stated the 22-year-old is refusing to sign a new contract with Schalke, but manager Domenico Tedesco does not want to lose him.

Goretzka was one of his club’s top performers last term, scoring eight goals in 41 league and cup games, as well as supplying six assists.

The Anfield faithful were excited by the report which linked their club to the playmaker and they took to Twitter to show it.

Here is a selection of the best messages on Twitter.

Goretzka joined Schalke from VfL Bochum in the summer of 2013 for £2.5million, and he has since made 118 appearances across all competitions, which have yielded 15 goals and 12 assists.

He has been capped by Germany on nine occasions, and he has bagged three goals on the international stage.

In other Liverpool transfer news, their midfielder is likely to face a summer exit.
