Dejan Kulusevski cited as Tottenham line up 'phenomenal' signing - expert

Tottenham must prioritise a move for Alessandro Bastoni ahead of Mohamed Simakan in January.

That is according to Spurs expert John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

As per The Times (8 November) Tottenham hold interest in RB Leipzig defender Simakan, 22, ahead of the January window as Antonio Conte looks to bolster his defence.

According to The Sun (9 November), Tottenham also remain keen on signing Inter Milan centre-half Bastoni, 23, who they chased in the summer of 2022.

Wenham would rather see Spurs sign Bastoni as he is ready to step straight into the first team.

“So Simakan is a young, French defender at Leipzig,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“He seems to be quite versatile but I have to admit I have not seen too much of him. I would much rather Bastoni if it has to be one or the other.

“I want players that are ready-made rather than club signings who might have the potential but they are really for the future.

“We need players who are going to come in and make a difference now. The signings in January need to be at the level of last January. I think anything else would be a mistake.

“It needs to be players like Kulusevski and Bentancur, players of that phenomenal quality who can come in and help us out straight away.

“If we get two of that level again, we will get into the top four. There is no doubt in my mind about that.”

Rodrigo Bentancur and Dejan Kulusevski have both established themselves as key players at Spurs since arriving last in January.

On Wednesday (16 November) Football Insider revealed that Tottenham now value Bentancur at more than £50million following his first year at the club.
