Del Piero has dig at Tottenham ahead of CL showdown against Juventus

By Richard Parks
Alessandro Del Piero backed Juventus to eliminate Tottenham from the Champions League and insisted Spurs won’t win the competition even if they emerge triumphant at Wembley next week.
Spurs came from two goals down in the first leg in Turin a fortnight ago to draw 2-2 with an outstanding performance and are well placed going into the second leg in eight days’ time.
But World Cup winner Del Piero, who made 706 appearances for Juventus and is widely acknowledged as one of their greatest-ever players, explained how the Italian giants would be disappointed to lose out to the north Londoners.
“I believe Juve can replicate the first 10 minutes of the opening leg,” said Del Piero on Sky Sports Italia, as quoted by Calcio Mercato.
“Wembley is a fantastic stadium the atmosphere will be crazy, Juventus must be light hearted and be without mercy, like they did at the beginning of the first game.
“I think they didn’t expect such a strong comeback by Tottenham but Juventus can win in London.
“It will be disappointing for Juve to be eliminated by Tottenham, a team that will not win the Champions League, that’s one of the reasons why I think Juve will qualify.”
Football Insider verdict:
Del Piero’s Juventus allegiance is well known and he appears to be talking from the heart as much as the head. Tottenham don’t have the European pedigree of the Serie A champions, who reached last season’s final, but they demonstrated in the first leg they are a team that must not only be taken seriously by the best, but also are capable of supreme performances. Juventus certainly have the experience, but Spurs are in an excellent position ahead of the mouthwatering second leg, and Del Piero’s none-too-subtle dig might come back to bite him.
In other Tottenham news, it can be revealed the club are working on deals to sign up FIVE players, with three agreements virtually nailed on.
