Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino is eyeing up a move for Barcelona’s Andre Gomes and Bryan Cristante this summer should the exit of Mousa Dembele materialise, according to a report.
The Mirror states that the Belgian international, now 30, has so far failed to agree to a new contract with the club and they are now prepared to sell the influential midfielder.
Dembele has commanded in the centre of the park and has been key to the Lillywhites progression in the Champions League and domestically this season which means should he exit the club, it will be a huge void to fill.
The Belgian’s contract expires next season and if the club are going to make any money out of the midfielder they will need to sell now.
Football Insider verdict:
Selling Dembele would be a massive blow and to replace him with Gomes, who has found first-team opportunities hard to come by at Barca would not be replacing like with like. Having said that, the Belgian international is not getting any younger and at 30 you would think that if he wants to win major silverware he will have to make the move now. Cristante is an exciting prospect in Serie A, and with eight goals scored in the Italian top-flight for Atalanta, it’s clear to see why there is interest in the 23-year-old Italian international. He’s clearly not one to shy away against the so-called tougher sides either and has registered against Juventus, AC Milan and Napoli to name a few.
