Sources: Derby County submit offer for Brighton starlet Haydon Roberts

Derby County have submitted an offer for Brighton defender Haydon Roberts, Football Insider understands.

The Rams have been busy in the transfer market lately and are looking to add to the six new signings already brought in to their skeleton squad.

A Derby source has told Football Insider that the club are working on a deal to sign Roberts, 20, on loan this season.

Brighton

Brighton are now mulling over whether to loan the rising star out again following his spell at Rochdale in 2020-21.

The centre-back, who is also capable of operating at left-back or in a defensive midfield role, is out of contract at the end of the 2022-23 campaign.

Roberts scored on his senior debut in September 2019 and has gone on to make six senior appearances in total for Seagulls, three of those in the League Cup in 2021-22.

The Brighton-born youngster has represented England at the Under-17, Under-18 and Under-19 levels.

Derby, who are under new ownership in the form of lifelong fan David Clowes, made former Sheffield United centre-forward David McGoldrick their latest signing on Wednesday (6 July).

Midfielders Conor Hourihane, Tom Barkhuzien and Nathaniel Mendez-Laing have joined following the expiry of their contracts at Aston Villa, Preston and Sheffield Wednesday respectively.

Derby

Goalkeeper Wildsmith also signed on a free transfer from Wednesday, while experienced centre-back James Chester has joined from Stoke City.

Football Insider revealed on Tuesday (5 July) that the Rams are now battling Portsmouth for the signature of 31-year-old Cardiff City striker James Collins.
