Celtic fans on Twitter were unimpressed as Callum McGregor was left on the Scotland bench for the first 58 minutes of Friday’s friendly against Costa Rica, which the Scots lost 1-0.
The 24-year-old eventually came on alongside his team-mate Stuart Armstrong, as he replaced Fulham’s Tom Cairney in the heart of the Scotland midfield.
Some fans were unhappy at new Scotland boss Alex McLeish for giving the Hoops midfielder such limited game time, in what was only his second cap for the national team.
McGregor made a difference when he came on, playing in Matt Richie for one of Scotland’s few chances in the game, but his effort was saved by Keylor Navas.
Here are some of the best reactions from Twitter to McGregor’s performance:
Callum McGregor deserves better than this

Andy Robertson excellent for Scotland tonight. Oli McBurnie has something to offer and McGregor/Armstrong made big difference to midfield. Lack of energy in first half bemusing.

The two Celtic players, McGregor & Armstrong, looked good when they came on…livened the Scotland attacking threat, & the game up #SCOCRC

McGregor has had an up and down season for the Hoops so far, as he has found it difficult to live up to his excellent form of last season.
He has improved in recent weeks though, and scored the winning goal in the 1-0 Europa League victory over Zenit, and also turned in a good display in the recent Old Firm derby at Ibrox, which the Hoops won 3-2.
With the Hoops aiming for a second consecutive domestic treble, McGregor is likely to be a key player for the Hoops as they look to create Scottish football history.
In other Celtic news, the Hoops are set to make three signings in the summer
