Despite terrible season for Rangers, incredible stat shows they are closing in on Celtic
Rangers travel to Celtic Park this weekend for the final Old Firm clash of the season – and a potential title party for their bitter rivals – but despite being 10 points behind Brendan Rodgers’ side in the league the Gers have incredibly only lost two more games than the Hoops in the league this season.
Much has been made of the Gers’ poor form this season and the inconsistent results that have blighted their season while Celtic swept everyone in front of them in their relentless march to the league title – but when you actually look at the league table there is an argument that Rangers have handed the title to their rivals far more than the Hoops have earned it on their own merit.
The Gers have been particularly poor at home this season and equalled a century-old record for the most league defeats in a season at Ibrox – but somehow the Light Blues have one won one home game fewer than Celtic have.
Rodgers’ side have won ten times at Celtic Park while the Gers have racked up nine wins from their Ibrox fixtures but it is the seven defeats at home that have torpedoed the Light Blues’ title hopes and handed a seventh successive title to the Hoops.
As Rangers have been losing to teams at Ibrox for – in some cases – the first time in decades, Celtic look set for a second season in a row without losing at home.

While Celtic will forever be remembered as the best team in the country in 2017/18, they will owe a huge nod to their bitter rivals for effectively gift-wrapping the title for them.
