Di Matteo makes key decision about Aston Villa senior man

Roberto Di Matteo has named Tommy Elphick as the club’s new captain for the forthcoming Championship season.
The central-defender will take the armband from Gabby Agbonlahor who was club captain last season until he relinquished the role following series of disciplinary issues.
But,Di Matteo has now confirmed who his new leader will be, as he hailed the attitude of summer signing Elphick.
“Tommy has those leadership qualities,” said Di Matteo as quoted by the club’s official Twitter account. “He is very well respected in the group. He knows the role very well.”

Elphick, who joined from Premier League side Bournemouth for £3million, alaos held the role at his former club, where he guided them to the top-tier of English football for the first time in their history.

The 28-year-old was known for his strong and vocal performances at the heart of Bournemouth’s defence, as he now looks to do the same with Villa.
Villa begin their first test of the Championship away at Sheffield Wednesday on Sunday afternoon, with Elphick expected to start.
