Darren Bent fumed over manager David Moyes only being considered for the Everton job on a short-term basis.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Laura O’Leary, the former England striker claimed it was insulting for Moyes that the Toffees would perhaps only hire him on a temporary basis given his history with the club.

It was reported that Moyes could return to Goodison Park in an interim role while the Toffees make moves to find a permanent successor for Marco Silva.

Bent explained that while he believes the Toffees should steer clear of the Scottish manager in general, they should treat him with more respect.

When asked if it’s disrespectful and insulting to Moyes that he’s only being spoken about on a short-term basis for the Everton job, Bent told Football Insider: “Yeah and after the great things, he did for that football club?

“Yes, football has moved on since Moyes was at Everton and Everton have moved on as a football club since him as they have completely different players and a completely different mentality.

“But it is disrespectful for them to only consider offering it to him until the end of the season, but I do think they shouldn’t offer it to him at all.

“It’s disrespectful to only consider him a short-term option after all he has done for that club, and you can’t put yourself in that position.

“If they’ve got their eye on someone else and give the job to David Moyes until end of the season and say he works miracles, wins the majority of the games, you have to give him the job.

“But for me, I wouldn’t go near David Moyes, I’d respect what he did for the club and try to get one of the big boys instead like Pochettino, Ancelotti even Unai Emery is out there, even though I don’t like him.”

Duncan Ferguson is currently in temporary charge of the first-team and has seen his side beat Chelsea as well as a draw with Manchester United so far.

However, the Toffees favourite has made it clear he’s not a contender to be the club’s permanent manager as he has already publicly ruled himself out.
