Djed Spence told to quit Tottenham after ‘disastrous’ move – expert
Tottenham right-back Djed Spence should leave the club and fight to revive his career after a disastrous spell at the club.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Alan Hutton admits he “feels for” Djed Spence but believes it would be in his best interests to leave the club.
The 23-year-old started last season at Leeds United before being recalled by Spurs due to a lack of game-time.
Spence was then sent to Serie A club Genoa in January 2023-24 where the full-back went on to make 16 appearances for the Italian side.
Genoa have been linked with a permanent move for Spence but as of yet haven’t made an offer for the full-back.
Djed Spence should end his time at Tottenham Hotspur
Since joining the club from Nottingham Forest in 2022, Spence has only made four Premier League appearances for Spurs, totaling five minutes on the pitch.
Spence has found it tough at Spurs and has been shipped out on loan at every opportunity. Before his spells and Leeds and Genoa, he was at French side Rennes, where is also barely played.
Spurs will likely be open to letting Spence leave the club after the £40 million signing of Archie Gray from Leeds who can also play at right-back.
“It’s really up in the air isn’t it”, Hutton said to Football Insider.
“You’ve got to feel for him, I mean he made the big money move to Tottenham, it didn’t quite work out. I thought he was a very good attacking full-back who was only going to get better.
“For whatever reason, I know his attitude has been questioned, that’s not from me, that’s just what I read so I don’t really know.
“It’s down to him now. He’s even further down the pecking order, behind the likes of Emerson Royal so it’s going to be difficult.
“You would like to think he’ll be able to get a move and really get his career back on track and show everybody what he’s capable of and kick on again.

“If that doesn’t materialise you start to worry for him a little bit because he’s not going to get any football time at all which will make it difficult for him.
“You’d like to hope towards the end of the summer he’ll be able to get a move.”
