Josh Windass: Rangers player is not happy when I do this

Rangers attacker Josh Windass thinks Ibrox team-mate Alfredo Morelos “doesn’t like it” when the former Accrington scores after drawing level with the Colombian on 17 goals for the season.

The Ibrox duo have been the Gers main source of goals this season and Windass revealed a competitive rivalry between the pair in front of goal.

Windass has scored 16 of his 17 goals this season since Pedro Caixinha’s sacking as manager in October with his replacement Graeme Murty appearing to be getting the best out of the 24-year-old.

The Gers attacker admits he feels the same as Morelos as both try to “succeed for Rangers” and help Murty’s side to success.

“Alfredo doesn’t speak much English but I’m sure he doesn’t like it when I score and go ahead of him. He’s a competitive striker who wants to be the best he can be. It’s the same with me. We’re all trying to do our best to succeed for Rangers,” Windass said, as quoted by the Daily Record.

Morelos has been a revelation since joining the Gers from HJK Helsinki last summer in a £1million move.

The Colombian has quickly become a fan favourite with the Light Blues support after his goalscoring exploits and has fired himself to the brink of a place in Colombia’s World Cup squad.

The duo will both be looking to get on the scoresheet when the Gers face Kilmarnock at Ibrox on Saturday and try to get back to winning ways after last weekend’s Old Firm defeat.

Football Insider verdict:

Like any top striker, Morelos and Windass both want to rack up goals and shows a hunger to fire the Gers to success. With the pair both on 17 goals, the Gers look like they’ve finally got attackers at the club they can rely on to score consistently and hit 25-30 goals a season. Next up for both Windass and Morelos is showing they can maintain that into next season, then the next and then the one after that. If they can do that then the Gers are really onto a winner.
