‘Doing us proud’ – Rangers fans react as Dave King launches another blast at SPFL chief
Rangers chairman Dave King has upped the ante in his war of word with the SPFL, calling chairman Murdoch MacLennan “not fit for purpose” – and Gers fans are over-joyed an the new-found willingness from the Light Blues to challenge the Scottish football authorities.
King had previously called for an investigation into MacLennan’s relationship with Celtic’s biggest individual shareholder Dermot Desmond after he was appointed to the board of Irish media company INM – which Desmond owns 15% of.
After the SPFL refused Kings’ demands, he released a second statement, as quoted by Radio Clyde, savaging the decision and questioning the league’s desire for good governance in Scottish football.
Gers fans are loving King standing up for the club – here are some of their comments on Twitter:
The Gers have also recently called for an independent investigation into Scottish FA director Gary Hughes after it emerged that he referred to Rangers fans as “the great unwashed” in a trade magazine 12 years ago – before taking up his post at Hampden.
After the Gers were charged recently by the Scottish FA in relation to alleged rule breaches in 2010/11, the Ibrox giants have been on the offensive and are pushing back against the football authorities over what they believe to be an agenda-driven attack on the Light Blues.
