Dominic Solanke has reacted to Alfie Dorrington’s emotional message with the on-loan Aberdeen star’s future in the balance.

Dorrington appeared as a substitute for Spurs in the Premier League when the North Londoners beat Southampton 5-0 on 15 December.

The 20-year-old then joined Aberdeen on loan in January, making 16 appearances for Jimmy Thelin’s men across all competitions.

Dorrington’s finest hour during his loan spell north of the border arrived on Saturday, 24 May, when he helped Thelin’s side beat Celtic in the Scottish Cup final.

Solanke reacts as Dorrington thanks Aberdeen

The defender on loan in Scotland from Spurs endured a moment of misfortune when he scored an own goal to hand Celtic a 1-0 lead at Hampden Park last Saturday.

But Aberdeen equalised courtesy of Kasper Schmeichel’s own goal before beating Brendan Rodgers’ men via a penalty shootout.

Dorrington took to Instagram [28 May] to reflect on his loan spell north of the border as he wrote: “Thank you to the gaffer, staff, players, and the fans for putting your trust in me and welcoming me from day one.

“I’ve had experiences that I’ll never forget, and I am truly grateful for everything. This club will always have a special place in my heart. Stand free.”

The post attracted a like from Tottenham forward Dominic Solanke, who scored 16 goals across all competitions this term.

Dorrington has endured a largely successful stint with Aberdeen, which was epitomised when he helped The Dons win the Scottish Cup final against then domestic treble-chasing Celtic.
