Dominic Solanke reacts to Pedro Porro’s ‘overwhelmed’ message away from Tottenham

Pedro Porro’s strong start to the season continued as the Tottenham defender’s Spain side hit Turkey for six on international duty.

The 25-year-old has been an ever-present under Thomas Frank so far in the Dane’s tenure at the Tottenham, starting all four of their competitive matches this season and seeing out three victories.

Porro was given a torrid time by Antoine Semenyo in Spurs’ last match before the international break, but was impervious in wins over Burnley and Man City and claimed an assist against PSG in the Super Cup.

Djed Spence’s performances and elevation to the England squad have kept Porro and Destiny Udogie both on their toes at Spurs, and the Spaniard has continued his early-season form on international duty.

Pedro Porro speaks out as Spain thump Turkey – ‘stronger together’

Frank’s squad has been left depleted with 15 first-team players away on international duty and a further three playing for their nations’ Under-21s, and things couldn’t have gone much better for Spain so far.

La Roja beat Bulgaria 3-0 in their first match of the break, and took things up a notch against Turkey in Konya on 7 September to record a 6-0 victory, with Arsenal midfielder Mikel Merino scoring a hat-trick.

Porro made up a right-hand side which featured three goals from Merino and two assists from Lamine Yamal, and posted on Instagram to celebrate his side’s resounding victory on their way to qualification.

In a message liked by Spurs team-mate Dominic Solanke, Porro said: “6/6. An overwhelming victory in Turkey – thank you so much to the fans who traveled, together we are stronger! Go team, Go Spain”.

Spence‘s massive improvement in form over the last year has largely come as a makeshift left-back, leaving Porro’s place on the right flank of Spurs’ defence assured with Udogie fighting for his own place.

The same can’t be said for Solanke, however, after Tottenham sealed the loan signing of Randal Kolo Muani from PSG on deadline day to provide further competition for Solanke and Richarlison in attack.

With Kolo Muani, Mohammed Kudus and Xavi Simons adding further to Spurs’ frontline, Frank is spoilt for choice with regards to who Porro will be aiming his crosses towards, particularly once Solanke returns from injury.
