Dominic Solanke sends message to Lucas Bergvall after Arne Slot claim
Tottenham striker Dominic Solanke has taken to social media to send a message to teammate Lucas Bergvall after their 1-0 League Cup win over Liverpool on Wednesday (January 8).
Bergvall, 18, scored the winning goal in the 86th minute after Solanke, 27, beat Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate to the ball, sliding it through to the youngster and allowing him to finish past Alisson.
The youngster’s goal against Liverpool was his first for the club since making the move from Djurgarden in the summer transfer window.
The goal nearly didn’t happen after Bergvall made a rash challenge on Konstantinos Tsimikas that could have seen him receive a second yellow card.
Liverpool’s bench were furious with the decision to allow the goal, with one of Arne Slot’s staff members receiving a yellow card for their reaction.
Speaking about the controversy in his press conference after the game, Arne Slot said: “What we can say about it is that he said he (Bergvall) didn’t stop the counter-attack. Every manager would prefer a second yellow to a counter-attack that goes on without one player and that still needs to go 80 yards, maybe.
“The second thing is that if you stop a counter-attack with a reckless challenge then he could still give a yellow, but he didn’t see it as a reckless challenge – and that’s the second thing we can debate about. It is what it is. The positive thing for us – we hate to lose, I hate to lose – but if you have to lose, it’s better to lose when there is still a second leg.”
Dominic Solanke full of praise for Lucas Bergvall after first Tottenham goal
Solanke, who also joined the club in the summer transfer window, has been key for Ange Postecoglu, starting 23 of his 27 games across all competitions, scoring 11 goals, and providing six assists in his 2107 minutes of action.
Clearly proud of his young teammate, the England international took to Instagram to congratulate Bergvall on his first goal for the club.

Bergvall has had plenty of opportunities at Tottenham, starting eight of his 22 games across all competitions, scoring one goal, and providing two assists in his 703 minutes of action.
Tottenham will face non-league Tamworth in their first FA Cup game of the season on Sunday (January 12) before taking on Arsenal in the North London Derby just three days later.
