Dominik Szoboszlai reacts to Kelleher’s post as Liverpool ‘plan to accept offer’

Dominik Szoboszlai reacted to Caoimhin Kelleher’s latest message to Liverpool supporters as the goalkeeper’s future remains uncertain.

The Republic of Ireland international has found it difficult to earn a starting spot at Anfield, with Alisson trusted in between the sticks across most of the competitions this season.

Still, having made 10 starts in the Premier League, the 26-year-old kept clean sheets, conceded only 12 goals, and even saved a penalty in the 3-2 win over Southampton.

With more game time at the forefront of his mind, Football Insider understands that Kelleher is edging closer to an Aston Villa transfer, with the Reds likely to accept an offer from the Villans.

Emi Martinez is expected to leave Villa this summer, so it would be a perfect chance for the talented shot-stopper to secure a regular starting position and embark on a new journey.

Taking to Instagram (29 May), Kelleher wrote: “Special days celebrating No.20. A pleasure to be involved with this group. Memories for life,” signed off with a love heart.

Szoboszlai, Jordan Henderson, and Conor Bradley all liked the post, joined by Nottingham Forest‘s Neco Williams and Norwich City’s Shane Duffy.

Aston Villa to quickly replace Emi Martinez with Liverpool talent

Football Insider verdict

Unai Emery will be desperate to achieve even more with Villa next season, having missed out on Champions League qualification after falling to sixth in the Premier League table.

Losing Martinez, if that were to happen this summer, would be a very early major blow for the Villans, however, so signing Kelleher would quickly solve a problem just weeks into the transfer window.

The 26-year-old has proven himself in small bursts, but with his career quickly dwindling away, the goalkeeper will be pushing to play on a more consistent basis, which just isn’t possible at Anfield.

Saving a penalty against Kylian Mbappe will, undoubtedly, be the highlight of his career so far, but becoming an integral part of a team that is fighting for European football could feel even more special.

After so many years on Merseyside, it will not be an easy transition for the 26-year-old, but if he is to advance his career, a move away from Arne Slot‘s side is absolutely what is needed.
