Done deal: Defender signs after Tottenham agree terms

By Harvey Byrne

Tottenham defender Connor Ogilvie has made the temporary move to League Two side Stevenage until the end of the season, it was confirmed on Tuesday.

The 20-year-old left-back spent the first half of the last campaign at the Hertfordshire-based club and Stevenage boss Darren Sarll has made the decision to bring him back to the club.

The north London side revealed the deal on their official Twitter account on Tuesday afternoon after the player agreed personal terms with the English third tier side.

Ogilvie’s original loan to Stevenage was his only one before Tuesday, where he featured 24 times with a return of one goal and two assists.

He has also played eight times in the Premier League 2 for Spurs Under-23s side this campaign, but he will now look forward to tasting some more first team football.

Sarll’s team are currently sat in 15th place in League Two and a 2-0 loss on Saturday has seen them suffer five losses in their last six matches, conceding a massive 13 goals in those defeats.

Ogilvie will be keen to help the side improve on their recent poor spell and with his contract set to run out at Tottenham in the summer he could put himself in the window for potential suitors.

Football Insider verdict:

It’s pretty much certain at this stage in his career that Ogilvie won’t be one to make it at Tottenham through the youth ranks. However, this loan presents an opportunity for him to make a move to another reputable club when he is let go by Spurs. The young full-back is already benefiting from familiar surroundings with Stevenage and he should look to hit the ground running as soon as possible. A good loan spell in League Two could bring interest from other Football League clubs and as seen from Jamie Vardy and others, the Premier League dream is not always over.
