Done deal: Newcastle confirm eleventh hour loan capture of centre-forward

Newcastle United have completed the loan signing of Leicester City centre-forward Islam Slimani, it has been announced by the club.
The Magpies confirmed on their official Twitter account that the 29-year-old has moved to St James’ Park on loan until the end of the season.

Rafael Benitez’s side have finally managed to bring in a new attacker in the eleventh hour of the January transfer window after much speculation.
Slimani has departed the King Power Stadium after being stuck behind Jamie Vardy in the pecking order.
However, the Algeria international is renowned for being a colossus striker with great strength and has managed five goals in 17 appearances across all competitions this season.

Football Insider verdict
Slimani’s deal was finally announced by the club right at the end of the January window and fans should be overjoyed. They may only have managed to land the striker until the end of the season, but they did manage to strengthen a problem area of the squad. There is no doubt the Slimani is good enough to walk straight into the starting XI at St James’ Park and should provide the firepower to keep the club in the top flight. He can play the lone role in attack very well, with the likes of Kenedy, Matt Ritchie and Mikel Merino perfect to play off him. Slimani never really managed to win the hearts of the Leicester supporters despite being a decent goalscorer, but he could quickly become a fan favourite with his new club.
