Done deal: Robinson can't believe Arsenal have just agreed to sell one of their four true stars
Paul Robinson has claimed Arsenal have slipped further behind – and can’t believe they have sold one of their four true stars.
The former England international, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the Gunners made a big mistake letting Joe Willock join Newcastle.
As reported by the Athletic (August 17th), Arsenal are close to agreeing a £34million deal to sign Real Madrid’s Martin Odegaard as a replacement.
Meanwhile, Football Insider revealed (August 19th) Sheffield United goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale is undergoing a medical with the Gunners.
Odegaard and Ramsdale would be Arsenal’s fourth and fifth captures of the transfer window.
Robinson suggested Mikel Arteta is looking to build a team around the club’s most exciting youth prospects.

As such, he claimed letting Willock, 21, go could prove to be a major blunder.
“Arsenal have not been where they should be,“ he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.
“They are well behind. Look at how the Manchester clubs have recruited. Liverpool have signed their core to new contracts, even Spurs have recruited better.
“What Arteta has done well is shift a number of players that he didn’t want out of the dressing room.
“Martinelli, Smith Rowe, Saka – those are the sorts of players they would want to build a team around, which is why I’m surprised that they let Willock go for the price they did.
“If you’re talking about those three, then Willock fits into that same mould and is the type of player that would have played for the Arsenal first team in the past.
“Arsenal have got a long way to go before they can crack the top six again.”
The North London side have completed the signings of Ben White, Nuno Tavares and Albert Sambi Lokonga during the summer window.
In other news, Arsenal have pulled the plug on a big-money deal.
