Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos is set to stay at Ibrox for the rest of the season after long-term suitors Beijing Renhe secured the services of Benjamin Moukandjo on transfer deadline day, according to a report.
The Scottish Sun claim on their website that the Chinese side have ended their transfer business for the winter market, having confirmed on their official website the arrival of Cameroon international striker Moukandjo, as well as former Metz man Wang Chu.
Moukandjo, who has 44 caps and seven goals for his country, has arrived in Beijing on a season-long loan from Jiangsu Suning, which will expire at the end of 2018.
He arrived in China last summer, leaving French side Lorient, and scored seven goals in 10 appearances for the club who finished 12th out of 16 in the Chinese Super League.
Beijing were said to have been rejected no fewer than three times for Morelos over the winter window, but despite Graeme Murty leaving the door open over a potential deadline day exit, he looks set to remain in Glasgow until the summer.
Football Insider verdict
While it always looked unlikely that Beijing would be able to pull off a late deal for Morelos, those at Ibrox would have been waiting with baited breath until these confirmed transfers. The Chinese side looked desperate to capture the Colombian and the numbers being mentioned, both in terms of transfer fee and contract offers, were far in excess of what the Gers could compete with. They will be delighted to have overcome this hurdle and look forward to Morelos banging in the goals between now and the end of the season, and who knows, even the potential of some silverware.
