Darren Bent has slaughtered Everton winger Alex Iwobi and suggests he could be sold just a year after signing for the club.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, the former Tottenham and England striker insists the 24-year-old has done “next to nothing” since his move to Goodison Park.
The former Arsenal man made his 18th league start of the season against Southampton on Thursday but was hooked at half time by manager Carlo Ancelotti.
Danny Ings’ opener was cancelled out by Richarlison just before half time to ensure that the points were shared at Goodison Park.
Having seen the winger struggle to make an impact all season, Bent believes the Toffees could cash in and replace him in the summer.
Bent told Football Insider: “For all his endeavour – he does work really hard and he tries really hard – there’s no end product, there’s no quality there.
“He works really hard, you’ve got to give that to him, he puts a shift in but when it comes to that real bit of quality where it’s the final delivery, scoring a goal or the final pass, he hasn’t quite got that.
“When he signed from Arsenal, for that amount of money I was like: ‘Woah, that’s a lot of money for him.’ For him, he’s not made an impact one bit and it wouldn’t surprise me if they look to offload him. Since he’s signed, he’s done next to nothing.
“When you make signings, you do so because you believe they can take the club forward and I don’t believe he’s done anything to do that.”
Iwobi has chipped in with just two goals and one assist across all competitions this season, with one of those strikes coming in the Premier League.
He has a total of 122 top-flight appearances to his name as well as 38 caps for Nigeria.
