Rangers sent a number of youth teams over to take part in the annual Hong Kong Soccer Sevens this week – and the Light Blues fans were delighted to see the Ibrox side’s Development Squad reach the final, only to lose out to Newcastle United under-23s in the final.

A number of sides made up of players from the Ibrox giants’ Academy travelled to Asia for the prestigious tournamennt inolving the likes of West Ham, Brondby, Cagliari, Kashima Antlers and Leicester City.

After reaching the final, the Gers lost out in dramatic fashion to Newcastle United in extra-time after a golden goal by Callum Roberts sealed the trophy for the Magpies.

Gers fans were delighted to see the young Gers progress so far in the tournament – with one saying they were “amazing.”

Here are some of their comments on Twitter:

The Hong Kong trip rounds out the season for the Gers’ youngsters after an experimental season saw the club withdraw from the SPFL’s Development League in favour of a season-long campaign of friendlies with elite sides from across the UK and Europe.

With the re-introduction of a reserve league next season rather than an Under-20 league, the Gers youngsters could face a more physical test next season as they look to make the breakthrough into Steven Gerrard’s first-team squad.

In other Rangers transfer news, the club are in hot pursuit of a 6’4″ colossus who could be signing of the season.
