'Don't get this at all' - Tottenham fans on Twitter react to Pochettino's decision over Edwards

By Harvey Byrne

Tottenham fans on Twitter have questioned manager Mauricio Pochettino’s decision to leave out young starlet Marcus Edwards ahead of their Tuesday EFL Cup clash against Barnsley.

The north Londoners are preparing to host the Tykes at Wembley for the Cup’s third round, which presents the opportunity for a number of clubs to hand opportunities to youngsters in a not so demanding clash.

Edwards’ one and only senior appearance for the Tottenham senior team came in the EFL Cup competition in the last campaign as he made his way onto the pitch with 15 minutes to go as Spurs ran out comfortable 5-0 victors over Gillingham last September.

However, Pochettino revealed in his Monday press conference that Edwards, who is considered to be among Tottenham’s best prospects will not feature in the squad against Barnsley, stating he is better in the youth teams.

The Argentine boss’ statement has caused some concern among the Tottenham fan base on social media with many questioning why Edwards is not being handed opportunities already.

Here are a selection of their messages on Twitter:

Pochettino has previously shown his willingness to play young players in the Tottenham first team with the likes of Eric Dier, Dele Alli and Harry Winks making the breakthrough under his guidance.

However, it is clear that he does not yet believe Edwards, who has three years remaining on his contract to be ready.

In other Tottenham news, Spurs boss Pochettino has answered whether he’s tried to sign Sergio Aguero.
