Donyell Malen to Aston Villa: Stefan Borson reacts to ‘£15m’ deal
Aston Villa could sign Borussia Dortmund star Donyell Malen for £15million without it significantly impacting their financial situation.
That is the view of finance expert Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider a deal for the 25-year-old could only cost the West Midlands giants £1.5million in terms of amortisation over the next six months.
Villa were believed to be close to the PSR limit last season, with top-flight clubs only permitted to lose £105million over a rolling three-year period.
Douglas Luiz, Tim Iroegbunam and Omari Kellyman were all sold ahead of the 30 June accounting deadline to ensure the club didn’t break the spending rules.
The Athletic reported on 2 January Villa are in talks with Dortmund to sign Malen in January.
Unai Emery’s side have made an offer for the Dutch forward worth around £15million, which falls below the Bundesliga giants’ valuation.
Aston Villa financial position unaffected by Donyell Malen deal
“I think it’s like last year when they bought Morgan Rogers for this kind of fee,” Borson told Football Insider.
“We are talking about £15million.
“Although I don’t think Dortmund want to do the deal.
“When you are paying £15million for a player, who is probably on quite a relatively low wage, it’s not that big of a deal to do it in January.
“If you split that £15million deal over five years, that’s £3million a year.
“That is then half of that because it’s only half a year of amortisation.
“It’s only £1.5million of amortisation, and then there is the wage cost for six months.

“It’s just not a big deal.
“I don’t think it tells you anything about their overall financial position.”
